Different poker rooms could have different poker rules, but essentially most game rules are pretty standard.

The Buy In
  1. Any new player who enters a game has to make a complete buy-in for that particular game. This could be about ten times the maximum amount bet at the game which is being played.
  2. Each newcomer can make a short buy-in only once per game. When you add to your stack, it is not a buy-in.
Misdeals
According to poker rules a misdeal can be declared under certain circumstances if the error has been pointed out before two players have played their hands.
  1. The dealer makes an error and deals the first or the second card face-up.
  2. The dealer exposes two cards or more.
  3. The dealer deals two cards extra or more in the beginning hands.
  4. The dealer deals out the wrong number of cards to any player.
  5. The dealer deals any card that is not in the proper sequence.
  6. The dealer mistakenly deals the first card to the wrong person.
  7. The dealer deals cards to a player who was not at that point entitled to a hand.
  8. The dealer forgets to deal a hand to a player who is present at the table or has kept a substitute to sit-in for him.
A misdeal cannot be declared after two players have already played their hands and the game will be continued to the end. In this case there are no penalties imposed or compensations paid.

Dead Hands
According to poker rules, a players hand is declared dead when the following occurs:
  1. The player folds when faced with a raise or a bet.
  2. The player picks up his cards from the table and mixes the down cards with the up cards when facing a raise or a bet.
  3. The player exceeds the stipulated time limit when facing a raise or a bet.
  4. Any cards that are thrown into the hands of another player are considered dead cards. It does not matter if the cards are face down or face up.
Irregularities
These situations are considered irregularities when they occur:
  1. If you do not place an object on top of your cards to protect them, then they can be fouled or the dealer could kill them by accident.
  2. If two cards having the same suit and rank are found, all previous actions are considered void and whatever chips are in the pot are returned to the respective players.
  3. If a player tries to win the pot knowing the deck being played with is defective, the player is not entitled to any refund.
  4. If any card is found face- up in a deck it is discarded and replaced by the card that is below it in the deck.
  5. If a joker appears and it is not being used in the game it is simply discarded and not declared a misdeal. If the discovery is made before any player performs any action then the joker is replaced. If play is made and then the joker is discovered, the player is considered as having a dead hand.
  6. Players accept the responsibility of playing a hand without checking for an improper joker or an irregular card.
  7. Whether a card is accepted or not by a player when it is exposed depends on the rules set down for that particular game.
  8. If a card falls from a player's hand, he still has to play the card.
  9. If any cards are prematurely dealt before completion of the betting, those cards will not be used for play.
That's a run down on poker rules so you can enjoy the game by staying within the limits.
